This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This course will help you to develop all required Skills and Knowledge to work in an ageing and disability facility. You will all the techniques and acquire knowledge work with individuals to support their independence and wellbeing in their home and facility settings.

During the training you will undertake theory components via classroom, E-learning and practical component in our well-designed simulated workplace environment.

This course is aimed at developing: 

Knowledge and skills to support and maintain personal care and wellbeing of people living in an age care facility or home.  

Skills and Knowledge to effectively operate as a Care worker in an age care facility including private, public, retirement villages, nursing homes and hostels under supervision. 

Knowledge of fundamental policies, procedures, and practices required to carry out activities related to an individualised plan.

The course duration includes a combination of workplace-based activities, tasks, workplace based and independent projects, self-study, work placement, and scheduled classroom/workshop sessions.

  • Current care givers who want to formalise their experience and base knowledge, Unemployed, people wanting to change jobs, people wanting to join the age care industry. 

Candidate:

Domestic resident, dependent of student visa holder, or visitor/working visa holder.

If you are the primary holder of a student subclass 500 visa, you are not eligible to undertake this course. 

Students must: 

  • Be at least 18 years of age or over at the time of commencement. 
  • Successfully completion of year 12 or equivalent (e.g. IDBP, HSC, ACE etc.) 
  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI). We recommend that you create your USI before you book your course.

  • Proof of Identity (Which may include Copy of Passport, Driver’s Licence or Birth Certificate) 
  • Current National police check

  • Additionally, you need to attend and achieve a satisfactory result on the language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) test. The LLN test will be conducted either face to face in a hard copy or via our LMS: Moodle. The LLN test will determine whether the student needs additional support to achieve the following ACSF Levels- 
  • Learning – Level 3, 
  • Reading – Level 3, 
  • Writing – Level 3, 
  • Oral Communication – Level 3 
  • Numeracy – Level 3

A variety of assessment methods are used to assess each unit of competency, including written responses, case studies, role plays, observations, practical demonstrations, and simulated workplaces.

Work Base Training

You will be required undertake 120 hours of work base training at an age care/disability care setting to successfully complete the skill set.
